There are even more web hosting companies than domain registrars.  Deciding on a web hosting company is a decision that every Internet business owner must make before they can place their site online.  How do you make this decision?  What web hosting companies do you even consider out of the thousands of choices out there?

We did the study.  We only considered web hosting companies that were used by at least 5% of businesses that are advertising on Google, Yahoo or Bing.  If a business isn’t even advertising in one of those places, then… frankly… they don’t really count.

We split those Internet businesses into two piles as usual… profitable and unprofitable.  We used the amount of time that they were able to advertise consistently as the tool to divide the two.  Profitable companies continue their profitable advertisements.  Unprofitable companies cancel them.

The goal of any business is to produce a profit.  Any other measurement is just a substitute for profitability.  You might look at cost.  Lower cost might lead to higher profitability.  You might look at up-time.  More reliable web hosting companies might lead your business to higher profitability.

Or we can look directly at profitability itself.  What hosting company is used by other online businesses which are known to be profitable?  Are they also used by unprofitable companies?  Can we draw a correlation between web hosting providers and profitability?  Of course we can.

What we found was that the most profitable companies didn’t use a hosting provider at all.  They had physical office locations and their servers were located in those offices.  They provided their own hosting.

Perhaps you can’t do that yet.  Or perhaps your business will never want to have a physical location.  That’s OK.  There are second and third choices.  In fact, here are the most profitable hosting providers we found (in order):

iWebTechnologies.com
HostMySite.com
Fused.com

These are the host companies most associated with profitable online businesses and less used by unprofitable businesses.  If you want a profitable Internet business, one of these should be your first choice too.
